Kokkinogia – Tainaro Lighthouse – Kokkinogia

Uncategorized / Kokkinogia – Tainaro Lighthouse – Kokkinogia

Perhaps the most beautiful hike of Mani!

The starting point was, according to the ancient Greeks, the entrance to the Underworld, since a well-known necromancy was located here in ancient times.

The trail starts next to the Byzantine church of Agioi Asomatoi (the Incorporeal Saints), which is built of stones from the adjacent temple of Tainarios Poseidon. Approximately 300 metres further on, we pass the ruins of the ancient village, the Roman mosaic and the beach of Arias.

The landscape is full of dry-stone walls and low bushes, thorny brambles, thyme and oregano. Throughout the hike, the view of Porto Sternes bay and the sea is magnificent.

The arrival at the southernmost tip of mainland Greece and the stone-built Lighthouse dating back to 1887 rewards you for your effort with a breathtaking view.

Return to starting point.
